We are not a short-term program. Our approach is rooted in relationships, because when students are known, supported, and challenged, they rise.
Elevate Birmingham helps students build character, confidence, and direction through full-time teacher-mentors and year-round support.
The model is intentionally relational. Students are known by adults who stay present in the classroom, after school, on trips, and as they plan for life after graduation.

We believe that every child is of great worth and has the desire and potential to succeed.
We believe that long-term, 24/7 relationships with caring adults have proven positive outcomes in the lives of our urban youth.
We believe that a holistic approach is essential for a strong and healthy future for our youth.
We believe that full-time, salaried teacher-mentors who come from similar backgrounds as the students can have a positive influence and make all the difference.
We believe that servant leadership, creating a culture of selflessness and service, is the foundation for leadership.
We believe in the intrinsic dignity of every person and act accordingly.
We believe that collaboration yields the best long-term results, acknowledging that the complex work in our urban centers cannot be done single-handedly.
Dr. Kent Hutcheson founded Colorado UpLift as a summer jobs program for urban youth, beginning the model that would later grow into Elevate.
Elevate USA was formed to help replicate the long-term teacher-mentor model in cities throughout the United States.
Elevate Birmingham launched as part of a growing affiliate network, serving students in Birmingham City Schools.
Elevate Birmingham partners with students through consistent mentorship, life skills development, and exposure to college and career pathways.
